Planning Your Asset

The facility you have located may need some building work. Before you decide whether this is the facility for you, you will need to look at whether the building work is possible, how much it will cost and whether you are likely to get planning permission.

You may be building a facility from scratch or just carrying out minor renovations or repair work. Before planning any sort of building work, it is important to consider whether or not you will need the services of an architect, surveyor or a professional Construction Design Management Co-ordinator (CDM Co-ordinator). The following pages take you through the process of deciding what support you need and how to find it.

Of course, you may not need to do any building work at all particularly if the facility you are getting from the local authority or other public sector organisation is one you are already using.

Whether or not building work is required, there will be a number of hurdles to overcome before plans can be finalised. This section also takes you through the process of getting an initial survey to see what you are dealing with on your site, getting planning permission and getting information about the particular specifications that sports facilities need to have.
